How to create a QuickList on YouTube

When you find a video that you’d like to save for later viewing, or if you simply prefer to collect a list of videos and watch them all at one time (like using a shopping cart system), you may want to check out QuickLists. A QuickList is a temporary list of videos you can add to while browsing the YouTube Web site. This list is temporarily stored in your browser’s memory and disappears when you exit your browser or shut down your computer. The following steps demonstrate how to create and view a QuickList.

1. Locate a video you want to watch by using the Search box in the upper-right corner of any YouTube Web page or by browsing through the Video and Category tabs.

2. Once you’ve located a video you want to watch, click the plus sign (+) symbol in the lower-left corner of the video’s thumbnail to add it to your QuickList (see below Figure ).

In order to see the plus sign on a video thumbnail, you need to be looking at videos on a browsed page (or similar mode), not on the page where a video plays.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 a few more times, continuing to browse for videos until you’ve collected several more items for your QuickList.

4. Click a video’s thumbnail to open its video page. Notice that underneath the video player is a gray bar titled QuickList with a Play All button, a Play Next button, and an arrow that opens a window to access individual clips (see below Figure). If you are using the new beta page, these items will appear on the right side of the screen under a section labeled Unsaved Playlist.

The QuickList bar under the video player does not display until you’ve added items tocreate a QuickList.

5. If it’s not already open, click the special QuickList button (the downward-pointing arrow)underneath the video player on the right to open the hidden window with all of your QuickList items inside (see below Image).

6. Click the Show All Videos button at the bottom of the QuickList window, and then click one of the videos in the QuickList to watch it. If you are using the new beta page, you can click a video from the Unsaved Playlist area to watch it.

7. Delete one of the QuickList items by clicking its trashcan icon on the far-right side of the list. Notice that the running time for each video is listed on the right as well.

8. If you don’t care to save individual QuickList items, select the Remove Videos As I Watch Them check box on the lower-left corner of the QuickList window.

9. Click the Play All button at the bottom of the video player (at the top of the QuickList) to watch all of the remaining videos. If you are using the new beta page, you can click Play All next to Unsaved Playlist.

QuickLists are different from playlists. A QuickList is temporary, limited in its functionality, and you do not need an account to create one. Playlists are “permanent” lists of videos that you can create and store if you have a member account.
